BiographyWarm, restful, tranquil, and nostalgic are words most often heard whispered from the viewer\'s lips as their eyes wander through the seemingly three dimensional images painted by Gene Stocks. His moody skies, romantic architecture and rich colors, combined with critical attention to detail, creates a hypnotic painting, beckoning the viewer through the cobblestone streets and winding roads in and around the people and places in the visionary world of Gene Stocks.
Born in Huron, South Dakota in 1956, and still living there today, Gene spends most of the day painting in his basement studio. There he says he can work for hours undisturbed. "Time goes by fast when painting. I can easily spend seven or eight weeks on a single painting".
As a child he had an extraordinary talent for drawing and painting. In school he always excelled in these areas. As a boy and teenager, he worked in the family business. After graduating from Huron College in 1979, he tried several jobs, and found his greatest success in creative work. In 1986 he applied his talent by painting architectural commissions. Today he works mainly on his fine art, creating four or five paintings per year with limited editions. He is a self-taught artist with undying family support and encouragement, and a strong determination to express himself through art.˛ View all prints by Gene Stocks View all giftware by Gene Stocks
