About the artist

Since his childhood, Ken Kylmanen has enjoyed the outdoors and observing the true forms nature has to offer. Bowhunting for over 20 years has afforded opportunities to observe wildlife in its most relaxed environment, which has been an inspiration to my work.

Biography

Ken was born in 1946 in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 1964 Ken joined the US Navy.  When he was released Ken went to Valley City State University where he majored in art and got a B.S. degree in teaching.  Since his childhood, Ken Kylmanen has enjoyed the outdoors and observing the true forms nature has to offer. Bowhunting for over 20 years has afforded opportunities to observe wildlife in its most relaxed environment, which has been an inspiration to my work.

An art teacher for 28 years, he has adjusted his schedule and dedicated both time and effort to research wild life painting. As my knowledge increased, the desire to transfer it to canvas also increased. Ken was a top ten finalist in the 1994 Minnesota Deer Hunters Association art print contest and was selected as the 1996 Artist of the Year. Ken donates to many organizations including Ducks Unlimited, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and 4-H.
