Biography

Scot A. Weir was born and raised in Laramie, Wyoming. He is a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado, where he received an Associates degree in Advertising Design. Weir later earned a bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wyoming, and became a full time painter in 1992. Weir now resides with his wife Julie and three children in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In the early part of his career, Scot was a jack of all trades. He worked at a bronze foundry where he learned the intricate facets of lost wax casting, and produced his own sculptures. Scot also worked as a freelance illustrator, and had the privilege of producing several major four color illustrations for the University of Wyoming. Next he paid his commercial art dues at a company that took him to three different states, eventually as their Art Director. Mr. Weir enjoyed the financial security of commercial work, but felt he was being creatively strangled. So he returned to Wyoming and earned his BFA, got married, and since that period has devoted all his time and energy to painting and his family. As a youth, Weir was an avid backpacker who admits he took the splendor of wildlife and plant life in the Rocky Mountains for granted, but that has all changed. The artist has nothing but respect for nature. “I’m humbled by the natural wonders and creations that are the very essence of the earth we live on. Through my work, I’m hopeful that I can help these wonders survive.” Weir strongly believes in placing his subject in creative, realistic setting with meticulous attention being paid to the detail of indigenous plant and animal life as well as rock types, geographic formations, etc.Scot has twenty-seven limited edition prints of his paintings plus two editions in bronze. His work is currently being published by Reflective Art Inc. and is a freelance illustrator for the Danbury Mint. In the year 2000, “Romeo”, was selected as on of the top fifty prints in the country by US Art Magazine. His prints and originals are represented throughout the country.
